Orthopedic Physical Assessment

The first time I saw this book in the hands of an US exchange student, I became jealous. Everything I had learned as a fourth year pt student on diagnostic assessment was in there and more.

I just had to have it. From details of observation to validity of test procedures, it is all there, even the more obscure and rarely used tests.

In combination with lots of drawings albeit not very detailed , x-rays, and pictures, everything you ever could want to know is available.

And it is well written, compact but clear. It is THE book on the subject. This is a textbook, which I preferred. This book provides complete descriptions of the human body, how a good physician, nurse or other licensed health care provider assesses one's health or one's illness.

The graphic images are excellent, in sufficient detail that a layperson can understand them. The information in this book allows a non-medical person to better understand illness and trauma symptoms so that one can ask better questions about care, treatment and rehabilitation programs.

There are other references on the market that will suffice for general information, but this textbook provides much more details. Being a textbook, even the site price is very high. For me, it has been worth the price. The reviews on site were very helpful to me for deciding which book to download. I was informed that the textbook was previously used and was expecting it to be in a used condition. When I received the text, the spine was nearly detached from the hardcover and it was obvious that the previous owner tried to reattach the pages with glue.

The text is great material but given the condition of the book, I should not have paid the price the seller was asking for. All in all, don't download from this seller. Magee's Orthopedic Physical Assessment textbook, Orthopedic Physical Assessment Atlas and Video provides step-by-step guidance for evaluating movements and performing the most common special tests in musculoskeletal assessment.

The organization of the text also makes it ideal for students in these disciplines, providing adequate explanations for procedures, as well as guidance for the musculoskeletal evaluation process. Several features have been included in this third edition, making it much better organized and more comprehensive.

The more common assessment tools are highlighted to better direct the reader. Tables have been added to assist in clinical reasoning.

Functional evaluation tools are again provided, along with additional photographs to support the text. Finally, a chapter focusing on pre-participation screening has been included.
