Brother's Keeper by Elizabeth Finn ebook. Subjects Fiction Romance. Trapped in a web of hate with no escape, a young woman discovers her attraction to the man determined to protect her may be her undoing. Will time run out, or will he find a way to protect her before her abusive father kills her? Revised This book has been edited from its original version. The changes made are not substantial and do not change the readability of the story.

When Rowan is awarded a ballet scholarship to Michigan State University during her senior year of high school, her life's dream is finally realized. Having lost her mother at an early age and being subjected to the abuse of a destitute drunken father, she has known unimaginable loss and heartache and been left wanting for a better life—a life now within her grasp. But with one ill-fated phone call, her life is turned upside down.

Logan is Rowan's best friend's older brother whose career is taking off as he prepares to graduate law school and move cross-country to the prestigious law firm that has offered him a very lucrative contract. When Rowan finds herself at Logan's mercy after he inadvertently learns of the abuse she has suffered at the hands of her father, their lives become intertwined in a way neither ever imagined nor wanted. In an effort to protect her, but with his own hands tied by her unwillingness to report the abuse, Logan strikes a deal requiring Rowan to stay with him whenever there is a chance her father might be on a drunken binge—which is often.

For her agreement and cooperation, he will keep her secret. He's always only looked at her as a kid though. Neither of them could have ever foreseen the love that they would one day share for each-other Turning to Logan for help, they strike an agreement. Since college is only a couple of months away, Logan agrees to allow Rowan to stay with him so she won't have to be put in foster care.

The arrangement has been made. Will it truly keep Rowan safe though? Or is not telling the police the abuse she suffers bound to have tragic circumstances? And I need her to love me just as much.

While Logan is technically 7 years older than Rowan, I never once felt creeped out by their relationship because the unmistakeable passion and love they shared was so hot and beautiful at the same time that I could care a less! One of the things I also loved was the forbidden-esque aspect of it. The 'best friends brother' storyline is one that I never get tired of and the sneaking around behind everyone's backs made the story a little bit more juicy and forbidden.

It just happened. These tragic circumstances put them together and the entire time I was reading I was just waiting for the ball to drop.

I knew that something bad was going to happen, and I'm not going to go into it for I don't want to spoil it for anyone! All in all, another great one by Elizabeth Finn that I'm sure I'll re-read again in the future!

I recommend this book to everyone who enjoys a good romance! That was never part of the plan. But I love her. There is no doubt nor question in my mind at this point. How could I have let this happen?

The circumstances that brought them together were innocent enough, and Logan's intentions were nothing but admirable, even though his mind started to wander to other places early on.

Prior to this he never considered Rowan anything more than his sister's best friend I was confused by that.

It's like he suddenly had an epiphany of desire for Rowan, yet somehow it worked. Even though Rowan was a willing enough partner, Logan never crossed the line until her age was no longer an issue.

Rowan's lack of experience when it came to the opposite sex, had me wondering how she could know so early on who and what she wanted, but I guess when you know, you know. Logan insisted that he not take from her, what he could never give her back, even though Rowan wanted him to be the one. He knew that eventually what they had would come to an end For all the heartache the reader endures, the ending more than made up for it!

So here I go again!! I really think the author could have eliminated some of the sexually charged scenes, and given us a little more of Rowan and Logan, well just being Rowan and Logan. That is not to say that the story didn't shine through, because it certainly did, but I just felt that it might have been a bit too much.

Just my take on it and my reason for detracting a star. Overall though, the chemistry between these two was certainly felt throughout the book, and whatever they engaged in at that moment, was extremely passionate and never felt forced. As I sit here thinking about what to write, I can't seem to get these characters and this story out of my head, and that says something about the writing. Would I recommend this book?

Am I going to search out more from this author? Thank you to Kelly for bringing my attention to this book and for the lend. You were right, it was pretty damn good! View all 62 comments. Rowan lost her mom in a car wreck when she was 10 years old, leaving her alone with her alcoholic, abusive father. Dancing is how Rowan escapes.

How she forgets. How she survives. Her best friend Sara and her family open their home to Rowan whenever she needs to escape. For 7 years, Rowan is able to keep her secret hidden. Until one night, after escaping her father, Rowan lands in the arms of Logan, Sara's older brother. Logan makes Rowan feel safe. He wants to protect he 4. He wants to protect her. He agrees to keep her secrets if she promises to always come to him.

Brother's Keeper

Rowan's life has made her very innocent. She's always had to depend on herself, take care of herself, support herself. She hasn't had time for boyfriends and experimenting. Despite the attraction that grows between Logan and Rowan, they both know they can never be together.

Logan is about to graduate from law school and move to Denver and Rowan has earned a scholorship for dancing. A scholarship she needs to escape her father. The draw, the connection, the tension becomes too much for Rowan and Logan.

They need each other. They want each other. They crave each other. As their feelings for each other grow, so does their fear. Fear of what will happen when they are forced to be apart. Logan can't give Rowan what she wants and needs knowing he will leave to follow his dreams. I tell her how beautiful she is. I tell her she amazes me. I make sure she knows she is the most precious person in the world to me. I make sure she understands what losing her means to me and how impossible it is to imagine my life without her.

Heart broken. What will it take to make them realize that they belong together??? I was really surprised by how much I liked this one. There wasn't a lot of dialogue between the MCs. But I really felt for both Logan and Rowan and their struggles to be together.

My heart broke for Rowan and the abuse she suffered at the hands of her father. But Logan saved her. He showed her what it's like to be loved and cherished.

I can't imagine what could ever make her think she wasn't beautiful enough to anyone, least of all me. She's the beautiful one. View all 76 comments. Rowan lives with her abusive alcoholic father after the death of her mother. Her saving grace is her best friend Sara's family. They take her in, love her, and treat her like one of their own. As they grow up Rowan begins to develop feelings for Sara's old brother Logan. Logan is quite a bit older and his life on tract for him to become a successful lawyer.

The boundaries have been set and everyone is abiding by them until Logan rescues Rowan from her This is the perfect story of forbidden love. The boundaries have been set and everyone is abiding by them until Logan rescues Rowan from her father's abuse.

This story follows the two of them as they try to navigate their feelings and what they want for the other one. I loved this story. Rowan is strong and independent, but isn't afraid to rely on Logan. Logan is charming, sexy and wants to save Rowan. Brother's Keeper is the perfect balance of heart, sexy times, and forbidden love.

I expected a fairly standard, erotic, steamy romance I got an amazing, emotional, rollercoaster!!! This was one of those books that you start to read slowly at the end because you just don't want it to finish. It was fantastic. I was so blown away. I wanted nothing more than for her to feel me - my desire for her, the pleasure I could give her, my obsession for her. The book deals with some intensely dark issues of child abuse Rowan and Logan Wow!!!

The book deals with some intensely dark issues of child abuse and there are some graphicly violent scenes as well as deep emotional trauma. That, coupled with the vivid, brilliantly written sex scenes make for an extremely evocative read.

There is no denying I'm once again complete in her presence. Rowan is barely more than a child, but, thanks to her haunting past, she is mature beyond her years. She is instantly likeable. I empathised with her from the beginning and her story drew me in. I don't care if nobody else thinks I'm beautiful, because in this moment, I know Logan does. Eat your heart out Amy's of the world Logan is perfection.

He is gorgeous, successful, intelligent, part of a wonderful family and did I mention gorgeous? The circumstances that throw Logan and Rowan together, initially are intriguing.

I couldn't imagine how the story was going to work and it had me reading greedily.

Just give me any reason to get you in my bed. The sexual tension is palpable and builds like nothing I've ever read. It was delicious and I couldn't get enough of it. You will be jumping your husbands whilst reading this book I whisper every word she needs to hear and I need to say. My heart broke over and over throughout the book. The fact that their relationship was on the road to nowhere before they had even had the chance to really begin was excruciating. The author makes you feel, so painfully, each of the characters' hurt.

The alternative POV's makes the reader experience every emotion so deeply.

The ending was truly wonderful. I am totally, head-over-heels, panties-round-my-ankles, heart-melted-to-mush, in love, lust and everything in between, with Logan. His love for Rowan was profound and undeniable and you can't help but want to be her! Her characters were honest and loveable. The writing was gripping and flowed seamlessly. The sex scenes were tastefully erotic, true to the story and utterly moreish.

And the book as a whole was unforgettable. I got so much more than I'd bargained for with Brother's Keeper. Read it. If you enjoy graphic but delicious sex scenes and soul tingling romance, you will not be disappointed. View all 14 comments.

What we should all do to Logan's Foreplay Fairy Godmother: View all 12 comments. Rowan Logan 4. I loved this book. Two beefs I have.

See a Problem?

The two main characters Inner voices sound alike. And the author doesn't use contractions naturally. My brain had to get rubbery to read it. As in "she is mine" as opposed to "she's mine". The following spoiler contains mature quotes directly from the book.

Do not click on the spoiler if you are easily offended. I put my mouth and nose up t Rowan Logan 4. I put my mouth and nose up to the top of her pubic region and inhale deeply. Her scent is more intoxicating than I ever imagined it could be. It is her own private scent, and it belongs to me now. Only one final request is needed. His face is now in the perfect position for me to do just what he wants.

I part the lips of my vagina with two fingers and push my pelvis to his waiting mouth as he takes one long, deliciously slow taste of my wetness. My unoccupied hand finds the side of the lighthouse wall to support myself, and as I lean my cheek against the cool surface of the building, I continue thrusting into his wanton mouth.

As I near my release, my legs start to shake. He reaches around my hips, clutching my bottom, and fiercely pulls my? He sucks deep and hard on my clit as my orgasm overcomes me. Dooda quiver! Something so crazy hot about Logan being such a good dirty talker and being so smart and cerebral at the same time.

Even though I never thought their relationship was inappropriate, I wondered why he held out in taking her virginity so long. Amazing self control. But what was amazing, was their attraction. It seemed so natural to me. Who would you trust more than your best friend's upstanding, hot, hard-working, decent older brother? If I had a first sexual experience like the one Rowan had, I'd be a different woman today. I never questioned Rowan's maturity. Being raised in an environment like that makes kids quickly mature and know for sure what they want and don't want when life become completely within their control.

I found that part of the relationship between Logan and Rowan the most fascinating. Of course, this mainly applied to Logan I especially loved that she was right there under his nose for years. Logan, Logan, Logan. I get such a kick out of the good boy being a bad boy in bed and man, can he talk dirty!! I almost want to say some of it seemed to be shocking just for shock value but I'm really not complaining.

It was great seeing him work through his feelings even if it was hard seeing him try to do the right thing. My heart went out to Rowan She really did deserve to be happy and have what she wants.

And it was great seeing her go after what she wants. But it was heart breaking when she felt she had to protect herself. And I don't even want to talk about what happened with her Dad. Logan and Rowan together were amazing.

I especially loved their time in Grand Haven Then, when the moment finally came, it was so harsh Well, that whole night was hard. Rowan's best friend and Logan's sister , Sara, was a wonderful person for Rowan. She helped Rowan so much through the years but I don't think Rowan realized how much she did for Sara.

The only thing I wish is that we would've gotten a recap of their conversation after Sara found out. Logan and Sara's parents were a big part of Rowan's life as well. They really helped her so much.

I loved the parts where Ronnie the Mom seemed like she was figuring things out and it made me laugh when Logan was talking about his Mom doing Jedi mind tricks on him! The ending I just have a hard time with all kinds of abuse and it was hard to read.

The hair cutting? What was up with that? And it really bothered me that we were never updated on what happened to her Dad. Overall, I really enjoyed it I loved getting both POV's and of course, getting an epilogue and seeing how they worked everything out. I would have rated it higher if it wasn't for the abuse.

Rowan our book heroine, has spent the most part of her life dodging the abuse given out by her alcoholic and unloving father. Experiencing the death of her mother at an early age, this loveable character summons strength and courage to move forward with her life.

Circumstances bring this unlikely but made-for-each other couple close and this story beautifully writes their journey. From the start this book is cast in darkness by the sensitively written topic of abuse, but with the added likability of an addictive turn pager. The author shows great sympathy with her writing to the characters lives and it never felt too heavy. I was excited to read this book after my book bestie, Anna recommended it to me.

Beautifully and lovingly written, I was swept up in the romance and sometimes teary chapters. A huge plus for my reading experience was the realistic build up of relationship between this book couple. I fell hopelessly in love and LUST along side them.

Their is no doubt whatsoever, that the champion of this novel is Logan. What he can't achieve by his words, was more than compensated by his loving actions. He had my book heart well and truly captured. A true romance story delivered with depth and emotion. View all 44 comments. Dec 26, Duchess Nicole rated it really liked it Shelves: I was really unprepared for how emotional this story would be.

I was also unprepared for how much varied sex would be involved At ten years of age, her Mom dies in a car wreck and she is sent to live with her father.

Her alcoholic, abusive father. Luckily, she meets Sarah, a popular girl from school, and the two strike up an unlikely friendship that stays strong throughout the rest of the book. The unending loyalty and protectiveness that Logan exhibits is what kept me from feeling so squeamish about the age difference between he and Rowen.

Rowen is seventeen at the beginning of the story and eighteen for the majority of it. I really wish that she could have been at least a year or two ahead in life, but that would have changed the whole dynamic of the story, so it was not to be! At first, Logan wants nothing more than to save this sweet, timid friend of his sister…his instinct to protect leads him to make some questionable decisions that lead to questionable situations.

You could delve into the psychology of the situation but I tried very hard to refrain and just enjoy the story. But when he and Rowen spend so much time together, one thing leads to another….

And come up with some very interesting ways to keep from having actual intercourse. I almost felt like it was overdone…. But after all of the things that these two did together, I think Rowen was a virgin by a slight technicality only. To me, virginity is innocence, not a hymen. So while yes, the girl could still claim to be a virgin, she was most assuredly NOT innocent by any stretch of the imagination. Logan is all alpha in the bedroom. He pushes boundaries that I imagine many couples never breach, ever.

I admit to feeling uncomfortable a couple more times during a few of the sexual situations that these two found themselves in. She gives me willingly what I need and owns me because of it. In a lot of relationships in books with younger couples, the angst comes from a lack of maturity and lack of trust between the two.

Not so with these two. The fact that they both are responsible enough not to profess an undying love for one another shows a level of maturity that is solid. In reality, Rowen was ready to be on her own, forced through circumstance to grow up too soon. Logan was a young man willing to take on the responsibility of caring for someone weaker than him who desperately needed both his protection and his discretion. THAT, my friends, is a true man!!! And therefore, I love him.

It was riveting, it was passionate in all ways, and it was a well rounded story with a wonderful epilogue!!! View all 31 comments. Nov 18, Lindsay rated it really liked it Shelves: This book was interesting. And it takes place in Michigan…the state where I live.

So, that should make things even more interesting. Now, imag This book was interesting. Instead…she gets a scholarship to the University of Michigan! Much better school in my completely biased opinion [image error] …Anyway, that was my biggest pet peeve. This book was actually pretty accurate….

At one point in the book, Logan and Rowan go to dinner with his family in Grand Rapids then leave for Detroit. The book depicted it as a relatively short drive…no more than 30 minutes. The cities are on opposite sides of the state. With that rant out of the way… I liked Rowan and Logan. He was caught completely off guard by his attraction to her.

She did make some stupid mistakes, but for the most part, she was very mature. It was easy to forget that she was only It was completely believable and extremely sad. For all intents and purposes, Logan was upper-middle class, brought up well.

But something about those scenes in the book…felt off. It almost felt like they were there to be shocking. Even with all that said… hide spoiler ] I really enjoyed the story. View all 30 comments. I super love love love this book. From friends to lovers, I'm hugging my ebook for e.. This book have the the best foreplay ever. The most controversial as they say because of the age gap and the "V" issue, but I'm ok with the age gap. With the "V" issue.. I like the Hannigan family especially Sara. I love love love love how the book end as much as how i hate it to end.

View all 38 comments. Dec 30, AJ rated it liked it Shelves: While I really liked the story, the writing style just did not work for me. But I thought the premise was a really good one. Rowan has lived a tragic life, moving in with her alcoholic, abusive father after the death of her mother when she was a child. When her father beats her badly one night, she tries to call Sara, only for Logan to answer the phone.

He immediately comes to pick her up and, even though it is against the law and therefore jeopardises his legal career, he agrees with her pleas not to go to the Police or hospital, instead taking her home to care for her, and insisting that she stay with him when her father drinks, so that he can keep her safe. But Logan ditches the girlfriend, and the other issues start to fade away the more time he and Rowan spend together, and things slowly start to develop between them.

Like really, really steamy. Logan takes his time, and introduces innocent Rowan to everything slowly, but once they get going, it's non-stop smut! For, despite how he feels about her, and every other intimate act that they have done together, Logan refuses to take things to that final level. Their arrangement is only temporary, and they both know that. But neither of them expected to find something so special together. It is dual POV, written in first person, present tense, and feels very narrative.

It was like the story was dictated to me, rather than letting me feel it, and as a result, I felt very removed from it. I actually had to put the book down and read something else for a while in case it was just my mood.

See a Problem?

But even when I came back to it a week and a bit later, it still bothered me. But I was intrigued enough in the story to want to continue reading. And even though I felt detached from the story somewhat, the big climax certainly packed a punch, and the story after that point was gorgeous.

I wished that I got to know him a bit more, but I just felt too detached from him to really fall for him. The dialogue was lacking, but the last few chapters certainly picked up and finally bought some swoon. View all 11 comments. Jul 23, Catarina rated it really liked it Shelves: This is the story of Rowan and Logan. Logan included! One night after an especially bad night at home, Rowan calls Sara to come get her, but who ends up picking up her phone is Logan and he is the one who goes save Rowan.

After that night everything changes and they start to see each other in a completely different way. But the fact that he is her best friend older brother whom she knows for years, he is also seven years older, has a girlfriend and will soon finish college and move to another town. And neither of them wants to start something that soon has to be over. He can't for all the same reasons I can't.

It hurts too much. It's like an alcoholic taking a sip of wine; the pleasure of the indulgence would be immediate and swift, but the aftermath would be devastating.
