Veja grátis o arquivo AACE Skills & Knowledge of Cost Engineering enviado The Preface from the 5th edition offered a good description of cost engineering.
The word cost is so commonly used and generally related to monetary value, we often lose sight of its true meaning and importance as a cost engineering concept. This chapter provides a basic overview of cost engineering concepts as they relate to different activities or assets; describes how cost elements are structured within the various categories: such as materials, labor, and other resources; states the purpose of cost accounting and its importance; and finally describes how these cost elements and cost structures can be used for the purpose of cost management.
These are 1 price cost , 2 features performance , and 3 availability schedule. The need to understand and quantify the attributes of cost spawned the engineering discipline of cost engineering.
Cost engineering is the application of scientific principles and techniques to problems of estimation, cost control, business planning and management science, profitability analysis, project management, as well as planning and scheduling .
Generally, this value is determined by the cost of the resources that are expended to complete the activity or produce the asset. Normally, you think of material as the physical composition of the asset.
However, the value of the asset may also include the cost elements of scrap material or manufacturing spares, construction form work and expendable safety items, and the cost of transporting the material to the work site.

Also, several new chapters have been included to bring the latest knowledge in cost engineering to the readers. Simply stated, it is a systematic approach to managing cost throughout the life cycle of any enterprise, program, facility, project, product, or service. This is accomplished through the application of cost engineering and cost management principles, proven methodologies and the latest technology in support of the management process.

Upon completion of this section, professionals will better understand planning and will be able to, without reference: Set Goals and Objectives that a planned endeavor is to meet Gather stakeholder input and information Determine feasible alternative plans. All these functions are performed as part of the TCM process. This Edition The 5th edition, with 31 Chapters organized into seven sections, is the first step in aligning the content of educational materials within the Association to improve their value in the certification preparation process.
Apply the knowledge gained to solve problems related to cost element source and definition.
