I bought and read it in I did not …more I recently found my copy of Bring Out The Magic in the garage and decided to reread it for old times sake. I did not realise until now the great effect it had had upon my thinking and the path of self-education it had set me upon. Although I did not realise it as I put the principles into action, the positive message of hope and self-responsibility has made all the difference to how my life has been lived.

Mr Koran's message is even more important in these present times when fear and negativity masquerades everywhere as news and entertainment.

Sort order. Nov 20, Alan Smith rated it really liked it. I first read this book when I was at something of a low point in my life and I can testify that the philosophy contained therein really does work. Essentially, the central belief of this work is that the subconscious mind is much more powerful than the conscious part, and that by sending the right instructions to it one can gain material success, health, loving relationships and a contented life.

OK, yawn, yawn. There have been a billion such books written over the years, to the extent that most I first read this book when I was at something of a low point in my life and I can testify that the philosophy contained therein really does work. But this one is different form the norm in many respects. To begin with, the author whom I believe was not Al Koran, the stage mentalist who has his name on the cover, but a ghostwriter, though Koran genuinely subscribed to the philosophy has a highly readable and breezy style, free from cant and moralizing.

This is not to say the book espouses a "win at all cost" attitude - in fact, it's pretty firm on keeping one's behavior ethical, lest selfish attitudes quote "boomerang and destroy you" Nor again, refreshingly unlike its Transatlantic brethren does it present as a defense of the laissez faire Capitalist system, with the hidden implication that if you are poor it's due to weak mindedness.

Instead, it makes it clear that wealth means different things to different people, and that gaining one's desires should not be at the expense of others. There is also the fact that there is a certain amount of gentle humor in the work, which again sets it apart from much of the competition. Koran or at least, his ghostwriter retells the anecdote about the Duke of Edinburgh, who when presented with a silver "bleeding cup" replies "it's bloody kind of you.

And hypothesizes that at the feeding of the five thousand in the Bible, there would have been beneficiaries complaining that the bread was stale and the fish not very nice!

Koran, born Edward Doe a former hairdresser who took up study of the mind after being shot down in WWII seems to have been a fascinating character, who took up the art of Mentalism a kind of mind-reading stage act and made it famous. In some ways I was a bit disappointed to learn he didn't write this himself, but this in no way cheapens the ideas within.

BRING OUT THE MAGIC IN YOUR MIND-AL KORAN

If your life hasn't gone the way you'd like, and the preaching of people like Carnegie or the quasi-mysticism of the Engram repels you, I'd really suggest you give this one a try. It might just change your life and, at worst, you'll find it a fascinating read. The author of this review recognizes that Doe's stage name of "Al Koran" references the holy book of Islam, and that such frivolous use may be offensive to many Muslims.

I understand that Doe was practicing his art at time when use of this stage name would not have been considered offensive in general use, and my appreciation of the ideas contained in this book should not be taken to imply that I approve of mockery of Islamic beliefs or facetious remarks referencing Islamic scripture. Obviously ancients had quite different theories about this than do modern Westerners.
